Here’s a movie I hadn’t heard of until today: Domino. I like Tony Scott’s films, specifically Top Gun, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State and Man on Fire. His more recent action films all have this distinct “dirty/grungy” look to them, which I really like.
Domino could be worth checking out.

Review: Constantine, aka. The Matrix Trilogy V2, or The Matrix Repeated.
A decent attempt at bringing one of DC Comics’/Vertigo’s more darker characters to the big screen, but ultimately, an unsuccessful one. Keanu Reeves, is, well, Keanu. Or should I say Neo. His interpretation of John Constantine is pretty much a re-hash of his work on the Matrix movies. Not much of a departure here, or a challenge in my opinion. We’ve seen this before.
The film has a lot of potential. Visuals and cinematography are quite decent, but again, it seemed like many of these were blatantly ripped from the Matrix movies. Anyone notice the striking similarities between the scene where Angela gets pulled by some force from one end of the building to the other, and Trinity’s scene in Matrix Reloaded where she’s being chased by an Agent and jumps through a skyrise office window? Eerie.
I’ve read some of the original Hellblazer comics, starring John Constantine, and I used to be a big fan of the Vertigo brand of comics by DC. Had it starred a different actor, I think it would’ve been much better. I just can’t buy Keanu Reeves in these types of serious roles. Point Break? Yes. The Matrix? Sure. But don’t let the man take on serious acting roles. Please.

Awesome film. Its gripping and engaging, and holds your attention til the very end. Its great to see a really well written and strongly directed film every now and then, and this is no exception.
Christian Bale is freakishly good, playing the role of an insomniac, and gives one of his best performances. I think he is one of the most underrated actors around today. He can play a variety of roles and make us believe in the characters he plays.

Excellent movie. Johnny Depp is great as Willy Wonka and makes the character his own and drastically different from Gene Wilder’s portrayal. Freddy Highmore is great as Charlie Bucket. And Deep Roy as the face of all the Oompa Loompas? Awesome. I have to give him extra props because he is a fellow Indian brotha’.
I’m glad this wasn’t an exact copy of the original film, and its good it stayed truer to the original book by Roald Dahl. It even expanded on the story and background of Willy Wonka. I thought it was a nice addition.
Danny Elfman’s score and musical compositions were equally good. I loved the songs the Oompa Loompas sang and performed after each kid got him-/herself into trouble, especially Augustus Gloop. Elfman is probably one of my favorite composers of today. I may need to acquire this soundtrack.
Special effects? Great. Loved to see the inner workings of the factory, and the world that exists inside. The chocolate river, Fudge Mountain, the Puppet Clinic...very cool to see all of it
Highly recommended!

So who’s excited about this film as much as me? I’ve watched the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory countless times. I own the Special Widescreen Edition on DVD, and consider it to be a classic. Its been said this new movie is truer to the original story by Roald Dahl, and Johnny Depp just looks freaky/great as Willy Wonka.
Hopefully I’ll get a chance to catch it this weekend.

CNN Money has an article on the top 10 car chases of all time.
I’m surprised Matrix Reloaded’s car chase sequence wasn’t included. It’s probably one of the best i’ve seen in a recent in a recent film. I must check out Bullitt and The French Connection. Many say these are classics, and being a car fanatic, it is pretty much inexcusable that I haven’t seen them.
Gotta agree with Ronin too; awesome movie and great car chases. Fast and the Furious and Gone in Sixty Seconds? Not so much. Chases in both were pretty lame. I don’t quite remember The Italian Job, and because I don’t quite remember it, I will have to conclude that it didn’t have any memorable chases. So another bad inclusion.
Now that I think about it, Batman Begins had a pretty awesome scene with the Batmobile. I would say this ranks up there with Matrix Reloaded.
Can’t really think of any other. Anyone out there have a favorite?

Anyone see the Fantastic Four logo written in the sky over the weekend?
Pretty lame, IMHO. At least get it positioned the right way. (found on Defamer)

The Island looks pretty exciting. Michael Bay is one of my favorite directors. He’s delivered many of Hollywood’s modern classics as The Rock and Armageddon, and this looks to be right up there.
He’s also directing the upcoming, live-action Transformers movie, slated for release next year. Can’t wait for it! Can you imagine seeing Optimus Prime in all his CGI glory? Gives me goose bumps.

The trailer for King Kong is out and it looks pretty damn sweet. Peter Jackson is sure to deliver a good time with this film and I can’t wait til December.
Check it.

OH
MY
AMAZINGNESS
Simply and undeniably beautiful. This is the definitive superhero film, and undoubtedly one of the best films in a while.
I have too much going on in my head to write a coherent review. Perhaps after several more viewings i’ll be able to write something that makes sense.
Just amazing. This is movie greatness at its best. A bold statement, but experience it for yourself and you will most likely come to the same conclusion.
