U2 Rooftop Concert in New York

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

Well, not exactly.

A group of comedians in New York decided to put on a fake U2 concert on the rooftop of a New York City building, on the day of their concert at Madison Square Garden, across the street from the arena.

Even Better Than The Real Thing

Indy 500, Coca Cola 600

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

Memorial Day brings two great races in one day - the Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600. Past races have been a bit of a let down. This year promised to bring some excitement, at least to the Indy 500, with Danica Patrick (R) running her first race.

Danica ran one of the fastest times in qualifying and/or time trials...I can’t remember which. She’s been receiving a ton of press, and rightly so, being the first woman to have a shot at winning the race. And she almost got it. After making a few rookie mistakes during the first 3/4 of the race, Danica took the lead, and maintained it for around 15 laps. However, her fuel situation was not good, as she was running low, and eventually began to fall back, finishing 4th.

This was one of the best Indy 500 races in years, and I was on the edge of my seat during the last laps of the race. I had my pretend money on Danica, and she almost won. But she’s only a rookie, and this race proved that she’s legit, and able to run with the best of them. If she maintains this level of excellence through the rest of the season, she’ll definitely win some races, and i’m sure she’ll win the Indy 500 at some point in her career.

Next up: Coca Cola 600...the longest NASCAR race of the season, and it couldn’t have been any better.

Crazy wrecks, my boy Jeff Gordon leading a ton of laps, only to be wrecked by teammate Brian Vickers (eventually finishing 30th), and my second favorite driver Jimmy Johnson winning the race, after an insane last 3-4 laps in a nose-to-nose battle with Bobby Labonte.

I was on the edge of my seat, again, the whole time. Jimmy was fast, but as the laps went by, it seemed like he didn’t have enough time to make his pass, but somehow he did, passing Labonte seconds before the finish line in a spectacular photo finish.

Good race weekend overall.

Lost Season Finale - Updated

Did ya’ll see that the ladder leading down the hatch is broken? It only goes down a few rungs! I didn’t catch this the first time around, but noticed it after a repeat viewing.

How the hell are they going to get down there? I’m guessing Locke will construct a rope out of bamboo and climb down.

Alias Season Finale

Friday, May 27, 2005

Anyone catch the season finale of Alias?! Man, this is what the Lost finale should have been. Perhaps JJ Abrams was too busy coming up with such great writing for this episode, that he didn’t put in all his effort towards Lost.

I’ve been a fan of Alias since it started years ago. It was great...great characters, great storylines. But a few seasons later, it was the same old thing, repeated over and over. I had hopes for the show with this new season, because it was supposedly going back to its roots. JJ Abrams was taking control, and attempting to redefine it once again. However, I lost interest after the first few episodes, and saw some episodes here and there.

Because of this, I wasn’t too interested in catching the season finale. But, I gave in and watched the final episodes, and boy am I glad I did. The cliffhanger at the end of this show, two words: Holy crap!!!

Now, admittedly, the whole car crash thing is played out. As they were driving along, I thought it’d be pretty lame if they got hit and that’s how it ended. Yes, thats what ended up happening, but Vaughn’s admission that he isn’t really Vaughn made up for it. So, who the hell is Michael Vaughn really?! Has he been living a lie these last few years? Is he really Syd’s brother? Sloane’s son? Is he a Chinese double agent?!

Guess i’ll have to tune in when Alias returns next season. I hate keeping up with all these shows.

Lost Season Finale

Overall, a letdown, but it was still good. I always thought Walt was the answer to everything, but I was thrown off when Danielle took Claire’s baby. When Sayeed and Charlie found her and she said the Others weren’t there, but they were coming for the boy, I knew it had to be Walt. Not Claire’s boy!

And when the rafters detected the blip on the radar, i had a feeling it wasn’t good. There was no way, at the speed they were traveling, that they could see anyone so soon. They were only about 15 miles out from the Island (15!). When we finally see the people on the boat, they all looked way to haggard and disheveled to be from anywhere but the island. These people were The Others! Danielle was not psycho, they did exist… and she couldn’t have been psycho anyway because Sayeed heard the same whispers that Danielle did.

The monster...WTF is this thing? From what we have seen/heard, it is defintely mechanical in nature, and its probably got some type of camoflauge system in place to conceal itself. Anyone see the similarities to the alien from Predator? I thought for sure we’d get a real glimpse of what this thing is.

The hatch...not too shocking what we discovered here. Again, I had a feeling about this thing too. They had only dug up a little bit of it, and they themselves said they didn’t know how big the interior of the hatch was. I’m going to guess whatever’s down there controls the “monster.”

Numbers...they were everywhere. Hugo’s Land Rover, on the dashboard: 42km 23 degrees C, 16kph - 15kph - 8kph - 4kph. Scooter bought for $1,600, and as he rides through the airport, he passes by a girl’s soccer team..number’s on their jersey’s? 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42...in order. Hugo’s gate number: 23. Reward for Kate’s capture: $23,000. And of course, the numbers were also on the hatch. Sawyer’s dad shot himself when he was 8.

It’s going to be a long summer without Lost.

Lost - Exodus: Part 1

Wow! Good episode!

Dr. Arzt: who is this guy? He seems to show up just at the right moment, offering sage advice to everyone. Notice how the letters in his name, rearranged, spell “Tzar.” Hmm..could he perhaps be the ruler of the island?

Ana Lucia: If alive, i think she is in league with Arzt/Tzar. They’re up to something. What, I do not know. It seems too much of a coincedence that they show her at this point in the show. But, I don’t think she is part of the original group of “The Others” that Danielle keeps referring to. She said they took her baby, after she arrived at the island, which was almost 16 years go. Ana Lucia is a new arrival. Could Arzt/Tzar have somehow brainwashed her?

Sun & Jin: Man, that was a cool scene, when they made up. I almost shed a tear. That was perhaps one of the best scenes in the show so far, as far as character interaction is concerned.

Sawyer: I think it was good of him to let Jack know about time spent with his father in the bar. I almost shed a tear during this scene also.

Looking forward to the season finale next week. 2 hours of Lost goodness!

Netscape 8.0

Looks like a pretty decent browser, and I think it has won me over. It includes the ability to switch between Firefox and Internet Explorer rendering engines. How excellent!

Next, I they should add in the Internet Explorer Mac engine, and the Mac Safari engine. Then they will return to the level of greatness they achieved years ago.
