Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Excellent movie. Johnny Depp is great as Willy Wonka and makes the character his own and drastically different from Gene Wilder’s portrayal. Freddy Highmore is great as Charlie Bucket. And Deep Roy as the face of all the Oompa Loompas? Awesome. I have to give him extra props because he is a fellow Indian brotha’.
I’m glad this wasn’t an exact copy of the original film, and its good it stayed truer to the original book by Roald Dahl. It even expanded on the story and background of Willy Wonka. I thought it was a nice addition.
Danny Elfman’s score and musical compositions were equally good. I loved the songs the Oompa Loompas sang and performed after each kid got him-/herself into trouble, especially Augustus Gloop. Elfman is probably one of my favorite composers of today. I may need to acquire this soundtrack.
Special effects? Great. Loved to see the inner workings of the factory, and the world that exists inside. The chocolate river, Fudge Mountain, the Puppet Clinic...very cool to see all of it
Highly recommended!
