Grand Prix Weekend

Monday, April 11, 2005

The annual Long Beach Grand Prix rolled into town this past weekend, and the Racing Crew decided to go Hardcore style and hit it up on both Saturday and Sunday: Bryan, Courtney, Billy and myself.

Highlight of the weekend was the Inaugural Long Beach Drifting Challenge on Sunday. Saw some pretty sweet cars doing some insanely mad drifts and spinouts around some pretty sharp corners. Pretty sweet race, but rather short, around half an hour and 10-15 laps.

On Saturday we got hungry and decided to get some food at the Sunfish Grill. Last year they had some decently priced margaritas ($3 each or so), so we though this year it would be The Place to be. Well, they didn’t have any deals and it wasn’t as fun as last year. Anyway, we sat down for some food, and this dude next to us looked really familiar. I realized it was Johnny Mountain from ABC 7 News. We debated on this matter for a while and Courtney snapped a picture. Turns out I had my Channel 7 news people mixed up. It was actually Garth Kemp, not Johnny Mountain. We’re pretty sure it was him, but we didn’t ask for his autograph. He looked pretty disheveled and was sportin a 3 day beard. We were scared.

This was a great event indeed. The drifting was great to see and I have decided to add a new mustang to the fleet ASAP. Sunfish was indeed a bit dissapointing. I’m going to give the nod for the resturaunt to be at this weekend to Gladstones. Not to crowded to get into. 2 dollar domestics and great access back to the track. Superb. Can’t wait for next year.

Warm sunshine, cool breezes, good friendsters and zippy racecars.  Not to mention extra-spicy bloody marys and ice-cold Tecate… What else could a girl wish for?  I love the smell of motor oil in the morning....

Yes indeed. And let’s not forget the smell of burning rubber on asphalt. Oh so very aromatic.
